Arilla's dragon, Emorith

Midwinter Sky Blue Emorith

Unlucky for Sum Egg - Kirysta and Sorcha
Casting ominous shadows across the sands, this tall, perceptibly thin egg towers over its neighbours -- lurking, even looming as it does so. Variegated shades of grey, darken to a deep firestone-black as they writhe and twist over the ovoid's smooth surface. On closer inspection, amid the smoky patterns, various shapes can be discerned, like the black feline that strolls casually across the width of the shell and the shards of glass, that seem to reflect this image almost as if it were a broken mirror. Yet more charcoal tendrils entwine themselves into the representation of a ladder climbing up one side and down the other, and from the way the colours spread out, it appears as though the cat's path will take it right underneath the ladder.

Unlucky for Sum Inspiration - Kirysta
The inspiration for this egg comes from the number 13. A number of superstitions and bad luck are associated with this number -- black cats, walking under ladders, a broken mirror, the only thing missing is an open umbrella.

Unlucky for Sum Hatching Message - Elenna
The Unlucky for Sum Egg undergoes all sorts of strange convulsions. A hop here, a bump there, a complete roll towards that candidate over /there/... and then it stops. Maybe all that movement was just too ill-fated to succeed. Nothing happens for the longest time. It is as if its occupant has ceased to exist. And then, just when all attention is away from it, the egg shatters into millions of tiny splinters, leaving a Midwinter Sky Blue Hatchling to tumble onto the sands.

Midwinter Sky Blue Hatchling -- Elenna, F'len and Sorcha
Even in the most poverty-stricken parts of town where refuse litters narrow crooked alleyways, and where hope is discarded like just another empty bottle, the clear azure midwinter sky arcs overhead, providing the residents no warmth, but a glimpse of the world beyond. This vision of beauty is free and visible to all, its clarity lending a sense of hope that is echoed over the hide of this cerulean blue hatchling. Like that endless sky, his smooth hide is clear and unblemished, fading somewhat -- as the sky does near the horizon -- to a paler, but no less perfect, cornflower blue in the most distal regions of his limbs and wingtips. As though eclipsed, his neck ridges deepen to twilight shadows partially illuminated by glowlight, a sense of movement evident in the multiple shadings of indigo that flicker down to his tail. Lush verdant greens trail vine-like around the firmament of his wings, translucent lavender blossoms frigid in the seasonal frost of his trailing edges.

Somewhere That's Blue Hatchling Inspiration - F'len and Elenna
Somewhere that's blue Hatchling is based on Seymour, from the musical 'The Shop of Horrors.' Mushnik's plant store on Skid Row is not doing much business until Seymour, an orphan taken in by Mr. Mushnik, puts a strange and unusual plant, which he calls the Audrey 2 in the window. Suddenly the shop is packed with customers dying to see the plant and ask him where it came from. It turns out that it had appeared mysteriously one day after a freak eclipse of the sun, and Seymour, whose special interest is unusual plants, took it home to take care of. He tries everything he can think of to make it grow without success, until one day, by accident, he discovers that it lives on blood. As the plant gets bigger, it needs more and more blood, until it starts eating whole people. Finally, Seymour discovers it is really a creature from outer space, and it's up to him to save Audrey - the woman he loves, and the rest of the planet, from the plant's evil plans for world domination.

Impression Message - F'len and Elenna
Somewhere That's Blue Hatchling hurries across the sand, only one person can save him from this fearful experience. And that person is close. Very close. He stumbles right up to that person and squeeks helplessly once more while pressing a bloodstained muzzle against that person's stomach and reddened foreclaws against a leg, no threatening movement this time. The hesitating steps of the Somewhere That's Blue Hatchling bring him directly in front of Arilla. After a moment of hesitation, he looks up to gaze into her eyes, his apprehension fading into an expression of complete devotion. The only physical contact he makes with his lifemate is a gentle nudge to her left hand, almost as though he's too incredulous to believe it.

Emorith's Impression Message - F'len and Elenna
An odd feeling of hesistation seeps over you. For a moment, it seems to disappear, before tentatively returning. All at once, you feel joy growing steadily inside you as the certainty that you have been found: the one, the only perfect person for the Somewhere That's Blue Hatchling, the one he has been searching for. << You'd really be seen with me Arilla? My name's Emorith. I'm so huuuuungry. FEED ME!>>

Emorith - F'len
Emorith, pronounced Em-more-th, comes from the character Seymour in the musical 'The Shop of Horrors.' Seymour was homeless when Mr. Mushnik found him, so Seymour now lives in the basement of Mr. Mushnik's flower shop. He has nothing in his life but his love of plants, and his love for Audrey, the woman who lives across the street, even to the point of naming a new exotic plant after her.

Emorith's Personality - F'len and Elenna
Shy and reticent, Emorith will always be the quiet one in conversations, and will tend to stick by you for support. Really, he'd prefer you did all the talking. He knows /you/ know what to say, and he's awfully scared that he might mess things up. He's quick to appease other dragons, jumping to it almost before they finish telling him what to do, and never seeming to notice, or mind if he does, that he's been taken advantage of.

One might think that such a quiet, obedient dragon would make the ideal weyrling. And so it might if it weren't for his clumsy streak. He's in such haste to comply with what's required of him that he won't notice the muck-bin before his tail whacks into it; or he'll discover in those first few attempts at landing that the ground was just a /little/ closer than he'd judged it to be. Fortunately, he never seems to injure either himself or those around him, and the major casualty will be his ego. This will be more of a problem as a young dragon, resolving somewhat as he gains maturity.

There is a strong side to him, however. Just wait until someone does something he considers truly wrong -- and make no mistake about it, Emorith has very strong views about what is right and wrong -- or, even worse, tries to hurt you. /Then/ the sparks will fly. << How /dare/ Galluth' s rider go anywhere /near/ you! He's a total disgrace! He's got no business being anywhere /near/ this Weyr, anyway.>> Ma'am might find himself dropped into the lake if Galluth isn't quick enough to save him.

And then there's women. Like many of the males, Emorith adores the female dragons, and he'll almost always have a crush on one or other of them -- for just about as long as his draconic memory lasts -- before another catches his eye. The little self-confidence he has will vanish in a puff of smoke around his beloved, and he'll spend most of his time trying to follow her about inconspicuously, and gaze soulfully at her; hoping that she will look his way, but terrified she might. Woe to him if the dragon who is currently the subject of his desires should take it into her head to glow while he is still under her spell. You'll hear nothing but the flight << What if I do something stupid? What if I swerve the wrong way and miss a thermal? Oh but she's beautiful isn't she? Just like a star, she shines so bright. I only wish I deserved her.>> This will go on and on and on until he drives you crazy, or she rises at last. During the flight, his earnestness and persistence shines through, and he will always do much better than he could have imagined. As he chases, his thoughts will be only of the glowing beauty ahead, and he'll often project to her throughout the flight. << You're so lovely, and you're flying so beautifully. You must be the most wonderful dragon in the Weyr.>> It seems that this is the only time when he is distracted enough from his bashfulness to allow his natural gallantry to shine through.

Needless to say, Emorith will be the best friend you ever had. Loyal and supportive, his faith in you is persistent and unswerving. He believes you can do anything, and with support like his, well, maybe you can.

Emorith's Voice - F'len and Elenna
Emorith's mindvoice is a clear, high tenor: dulcet and vibrant -- or it would be if he wasn't so quiet in your mind. Only in those rare occasions when he's sweet-talking a green in flight, or when he is reminding you of just how wonderful you are, will his tones resonate with their true beauty. Often it will take a moment for him to formulate a reply to what you've said, as he mulls over just how to put it.
